On a blue background in the shield of the coat of arms, a red brick wall with five turrets and a raised black portcullis is depicted. This wall symbolizes Cēsis Castle. Above the wall, a standing warrior in white clothes is depicted, holding a raised sword with gold trim and a round gray shield. The standing warrior symbolizes the city's history, its past as a knight's city, and the residence of the Livonian Order's master.
