Estonian National Paper Flag
The Estonian flag was officially adopted on August 7, 1990, although the same flag was also used from 1918 to 1940. It was first used in 1884 as the flag of the Estonian student corps at the University of Tartu, which adopted the colors in 1881.
The blue color on the flag symbolizes the Estonian sky, lakes, and sea, as well as loyalty to nationalist ideals. Black represents the Estonian land, and white signifies the people's aspiration for joy and light. The flag's proportion is 7:11. The first copy of the flag is currently housed in the Estonian National Museum in Tartu.
