The shield of the coat of arms depicts a red brick wall with five turrets and a raised black portcullis on a blue background. This wall symbolizes Cēsis Castle. Above the wall, a standing soldier in white clothes is depicted, holding a raised sword with gold trim and a round grey shield. The standing soldier symbolizes the city's history, its former knightly city status, and its role as the residence of the Livonian Order master.
