The current coat of arms of Daugavpils was approved on October 31, 1925, re-established on June 21, 1990, and in accordance with the Law on Coats of Arms adopted in 2004, it was registered in the Register of Coats of Arms of the Republic of Latvia on April 14, 2007.
Heraldic description of the coat of arms: "In a blue field, a silver wavy bend, above a golden lily, at the base a detached silver crenellated brick wall."
The 1925 coat of arms has several parallels with the seal of the Dinaburg commandry. The symbol of the Blessed Virgin Mary depicted in the upper part of the seal has long been a lily, which is depicted in the coat of arms. The meandering line symbolizes the Daugava River. The lower part of the seal depicts a knight holding a castle in his hands. The wall in the coat of arms refers both to the old Dinaburg castle, from which Daugavpils originated, and to the city rights granted in 1582. Even though it does not align with the ideas of the coat of arms' designers, the wall is also associated by modern city residents with the Dinaburg Fortress built between 1810 and 1878.
