The current coat of arms of Daugavpils was approved on October 31, 1925, restored on June 21, 1990, and, in accordance with the Law on Coats of Arms adopted in 2004, was entered into the Register of Coats of Arms of the Republic of Latvia on April 14, 2007.

Heraldic description of the coat of arms: "In a blue field, a silver wavy fess, in chief a golden lily, in base a detached silver crenellated brick wall."

The 1925 coat of arms has several parallels with the seal of the Komturs of Dinaburg. The symbol of the Holy Virgin Mary depicted in the upper part of the seal has long been a lily, which is depicted in the coat of arms. The meandering line symbolizes the Daugava River. The lower part of the seal depicts a knight holding a castle in his hands. The wall in the coat of arms indicates both the old Dinaburg castle, from which Daugavpils originates, and the city rights granted in 1582. Although it does not correspond to the ideas of the authors of the coat of arms designs, in the eyes of modern city residents, the wall is also associated with the Dinaburg fortress built between 1810 and 1878.
