The coat of arms of Jēkabpils depicts a lynx in natural colors, moving to the right under a spruce tree in a silver field. The design of the Jēkabpils coat of arms was also adopted by the Heraldic Commission on November 21, 1924.
Such a coat of arms design had its own prehistory. Once, Duke Jacob of Courland went hunting. He wandered through the forests of his duchy for a long time, but no game was found. Finally, he reached the banks of the Daugava and there, under a lush spruce tree, was a lynx. The Duke hunted the lynx and noticed a small town nearby.
