The Kuldīga city flag was approved in 1992, in anticipation of Kuldīga's 750th anniversary. The author of the flag is Mārtiņš Heimrāts.
The Kuldīga city flag depicts a wheel, symbolizing Kuldīga's connection with other Hanseatic League cities and indicating its connection with Kuldīga's coat of arms.
The flag uses the colors of Kuldīga from Duke Jacob's time – black, red, and silver. The shades of the Kuldīga city flag colors are: red – 201cpantone, black – pantone black, and silver.
The flag's composition – the principle of flags of four other Latvian cities – Riga, Liepāja, Jelgava, Daugavpils. Horizontal color stripes – the city's coat of arms in the middle. Colors – stripe colors – red and black after Duke Jacob's black crayfish on a red background. Proportions – 2:1, for the large flag – 15:3.
