HISTORY OF THE FLAG:
The Latvian flag is one of the oldest national flags in the world, based on the description of the Latgalian or Lettish flag in the Rhymed Chronicle. In the 20th century, after gaining independence during World War I, Latvia was occupied and annexed by the Soviet Union, where the use of the flag was prohibited during the USSR era.
Despite this, the Latvian people maintained their desire for freedom, and the flag became a symbol of independence during the Awakening period in the 1980s-1990s. On February 27, 1990, after the restoration of independence, the Latvian flag once again became the official national symbol. It is proudly raised on national holidays and important events, symbolizing the independence and freedom of the Latvian people.
