The green shield of the coat of arms is diagonally divided by a silver band, which is joined by another narrower silver band from the top of the shield. These bands symbolize the Daugava River and its tributary Aiviekste. A golden brick wall is a symbol of the city, placed in the upper left corner of the shield.
