The Priekule Municipality Council approved the municipal flag in 2011, choosing the variant that received the most votes in the public discussion.
Voting took place in all ten municipal libraries. In the first public discussion, seven variants were offered, and in the second round – two. The winner received 209 out of 329 votes – a convincing majority, says council deputy and tourism organizer Daiga Egle.
The flag of Priekule municipality has a vertical division into three parts – the green color symbolizes forests and meadows. "We are a green municipality," emphasizes D. Egle. The white stripe, however, is not intended to represent dairy farming, but rather clarity, fidelity to ideals, and a good background for the coat of arms.
